SciFlo - Proud to be involved in the NOTUS Emergency Invasive Ventilator Program
SciFlo have been successful in the manufacture and sourcing of thousands of fittings, check valves, filters and reels of tubing for this important project.
This is a Grey Innovation led initiative supported by the Australian Government, Victorian Government and Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre.
Approximately 30 local companies have come together to support Grey Innovation in their production of the ventilators and to help satisfy the potential increased demand in Australia at this critical time.
SciFlo will be delivering all medical pneumatic fittings within the project, ready for manufacturing In June and July.
From winning the $31million project, SciFlo has been working closely with Grey to meet urgent required timelines and develop a prototype for the NOTUS ventilator by the end of June.

What is ISO 80369?
ISO 80369 is a series of standards which is designed to improve patient safety by reducing the risk of misconnections with small-bore connectors which are used in liquid and gas healthcare applications. The ISO 80369 series of standards aims to minimise misconnections between small-bore connectors of different functional categories.
Why is ISO 80369 important?
The need to improve patient safety is the most obvious answer. It is common for patients to have many lines connected in order to deliver the treatment they require. For example, the devices in intravenous applications needed to administer the treatment use a universal luer lock connection, misconnections can cause leaks which lead to an incorrect dosage of medication or delivery of an incorrect fluid or gas which can cause complications or even death. The ISO 80369-7 standard for intravascular and hypodermic applications has tightened dimensions and functional testing for luer connectors to stop these mistakes from happening.
What are 80369 Standards and what do they mean?
If you intend to use any small-bore connectors to convey any liquid or gas in healthcare applications these ISO 80369 standards apply to you.
According to ISO 80369-1 in describing the problem: “In a coronary care unit there are as many as 40 luer connectors on the medical devices used with a single patient. Therefore, it is not surprising that misconnections are made.”

Pinch Valve - Simple design with reliable and effective performance
Our Pinch Valve series are solenoid operated devices. They are designed to open and close tubes for controlling flow of air, liquid, gas or compatible fluids.
Other miniature valves types have internal passages which may cause small amounts of fluid to remain in the valve. A pinch valve has no areas or deda volume where fluid can become trapped. Only the inside of the tubing contracts the fluid. Energising the solenoid retracts or attracts the plunger, which opens or closes the tube. De-energising the solenoid will allow the plunger to return to its original state.

Our new range of O-rings and rubber seals is precision manufacturered with a large variery of material options for medical and life sciences applications. Our rubber and silicone products are cost-effective and are designed for performance excellence.
Applications for these products includes medical device cleaning systems, drug delivery devices/ systems and general medical devices such as valves, pumps, cylinders, connectors and fluid transfer.
Available in a range of elastomeric materials specifically for life sciences applications, they allow sealing of practically all liquid and gaseous media, while standing up to even the most rigerous sterilisation processes. Our new medical grade O-rings and rubber seals are able to cope with the wide range of medical process media, potent active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and aggresive cleaning/ sterilisation processes.
Stringent manufacturing techniques and procedures for the heathcare sector are undertaken for this range of rubber and silicone components. This is in accordance with both ISO9001 and AS9100D quality standards. We are able to undertake and provide complex assemblies of rubber, silicone and plastic components within an ISO Class 7 cleanroom. In-house packagng and sterilisation assistance is available.

We are proud to announce the addition Barbed and Bond-In Luers to our ISO 80369-7 compatible fittings.
The ISO 80369 series of standards aims to minimise misconnections between small bore connectors of different functional categories. ISO 80369-7 specifically addresses intervascular and hyperdermic applications.
The dimensions and tolerances given in ISO 80369-7 are similar enough to those given in the previous stanard for luer connectors (ISO 594) that most 80369-7 connectors will be backwards compatible with legacy connectors. Manufacturers of medical devices should, however, take a proactive approach to implementing 80369-7 connectors into their new designs, as there have been significant changes to dimensional tolerences as well as functional testing requirements.
According to the FDA website, as of December 31st, 2019, the agency will no longer be accepting 510(k) submissions for intravascular or hyperdermic applications that incorporate luer connectors of the ISO 594 standard.
Extensive research has been conducted to determine the best manufacturing methods and proper testing protocol to evaluate and meet compliance to the ISO 80369-7 standard. The range of 80369-7 luers are 3rd party tested by accredited, independent laboratories certified to ISO 17025. Only qualified laboratories, with the specific equipment and experience necessary, have been contracted for testing to ISO 80369's mechanical and dimensional requirements.
